In the rapidly evolving landscape of academic research, proficiency in data management and analysis software is crucial for postgraduate students aiming to produce rigorous and impactful research. The Essential Software Skills Workshop is designed to equip Master’s and PhD students with hands-on experience in SPSS software tool that supports quantitative research.
This workshop is tailored for postgraduate students who have advanced beyond the proposal stage and are ready to engage in data analysis. The session will provide a hands-on approach to understanding the SPSS interface, inputting and managing datasets, and performing key data cleaning tasks such as structuring, merging datasets, recoding variables and handling of inconsistent values.
In addition to data preparation, participants will learn how to create summary tables, obtain descriptive measures and create visualizations. Along with learning how to navigate SPSS, an overview of commonly used statistical methods will also be covered. The aim is to equip participants not only with the technical skills to use SPSS, but also with the understanding of which methods or techniques are appropriate for different types of data and research questions.
