Project description and motivation

This project aims to build capacity for academic engagement in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) at UKZN by promoting innovative, evidence-based teaching practices. UKZN is committed to fostering a culture of excellence in teaching, recognising that quality teaching is essential to the success of higher education institutions. Through SOTL, academics reflect on their pedagogy, engage in scholarly inquiry, and enhance student learning experiences. This initiative supports continuous professional development by providing academics with the tools and support needed to improve their teaching practices and adapt to the evolving needs of a diverse student body.

Alignment of the project to the institution’s Strategic Plan

This project aligns with UKZN’s Strategic Plan 2023–2032, particularly Goal 1: Excellent Teaching and Learning, which focuses on attracting high-potential students and developing them into globally aware professionals, leaders, and citizens. It also supports Goal 3: Excellent and High-Impact Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which positions UKZN as a globally ranked research-intensive university that actively responds to key societal, economic, and environmental challenges.
